We believe in one God, the Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
We believe that the One God is known in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that Jesus, God’s Son, is fully human and fully God. We believe he gave his life for the sins of the world. We believe that by raising Jesus from the dead, God vindicated his sinless life and broke the power of sin and evil, delivering those who believe from death to life eternal (Book of Confessions, 10.2).
We believe that the Son, Jesus Christ, has been given all power in heaven and earth by God the Father, “who raised Christ from the dead and set him above all rule and authority, all power and dominion, and every name that is name, not only in this age but also in that which is to come” (Book of Order, G-1.0100).
We believe that Christ calls the Church into being and gives it all that is necessary for its mission to the world. We believe that Christ is present with the Church in both Spirit and Word.
We believe the Holy Spirit is the giver and renewer of life. We believe the Spirit justifies us by grace through faith and gives us the courage to pray without ceasing and to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior (Book of Confessions, 10.4).
We believe the Bible is inspired by God and is the unique, authoritative witness to what God expects us to believe and to do. We believe the Bible is the word of God written just as Jesus Christ is the Word of God incarnate.
We believe that the Church of Jesus Christ is “the provisional demonstration of what God intends for all of humanity” (Book of Order, G-3.0200). The Church is the body of Christ, and is called to be a sign in and for the world of the new reality which God has made available to people in Jesus Christ. This new reality is that sin is forgiven, reconciliation with God is accomplished, and the dividing walls of hostility are torn down (Book of Order, G-3.0200).
We believe the mission of the Church is “to present the claims of Jesus Christ, leading persons to repentance, acceptance of him as Savior and Lord, and new life as his disciples” (Book of Order G-3.0300).
